In-Office Procedures

Colposcopy

A colposcopy is a procedure that’s performed when a Pap Smear result returns abnormal. The physician visualizes the cervix using a scope to magnify the cervix and identify the abnormal changes. Depending on the results of the Pap smear and the degree of abnormality, your physician may decide to take a biopsy of one or more of the problem areas to determine the degree/severity of the abnormality. The specimen is sent to a laboratory for analysis.

Endometrial Ablation – “No more periods!”

An endometrial ablation is a procedure to stop or significantly reduce excessive and abnormal bleeding in women by removing a thin layer of tissue from the lining of the uterus. This procedure is done on women who are no longer interested in future pregnancies.

Endometrial ablations are safe, effective, and can be performed in the office in 8 minutes or less and you can resume your normal daily activities the next day.

We perform the ablations using Novasure, Genesys HTA, and Minerva devices at Camelback Women’s Health.

Hysteroscopy (with -or- without D&C)

A hysteroscopy is a procedure which allows your doctor to visualize the inner lining of the uterus by inserting a very narrow scope with a camera into the cervical canal. Seeing the uterine lining on the monitor gives your doctor a clear view of the interior of your uterine cavity. Abnormal tissue, such as polyps or thickening of the lining, can be biopsied or removed at the time of the hysteroscopy. The removal of tissue would be done with a dilation and curettage (D&C). This procedure is usually performed under anesthesia in our office.

LEEP (Loop Electrosurgical Excision Procedure)

A LEEP procedure uses a low-voltage current through a thin wire loop which acts as a scalpel to remove tissue with mild to moderate dysplasia (abnormal or precancerous changes) from the cervix, while cauterizing the tissue at the same time to minimize bleeding. This procedure is done when the pap smear and biopsy results return as abnormal. It is generally done in the office with only local anesthesia. It can be done under anesthesia under certain circumstances.

MonaLisa Touch

MonaLisa Touch is a treatment that uses laser energy to treat atrophic vaginitis, vaginal dryness and/or burning, painful intercourse, and urinary incontinence. MonaLisa Touch is a medical laser which delivers controlled energy to the vaginal tissue so cells produce more collagen and encourage increased blood flow, restoring the tissue to it’s pre-menopausal state. Treatments are done in a series of 3- each treatment 6 weeks apart. Yearly maintenance treatments may be necessary.
