3 Things to Shop for In a Prenatal Vitamin

Prenatal Guide Phoenix, AZThe wonderful thing about pregnancy is that basically, you get to sit back and watch your body do the work for you. And although you may be suffering from morning sickness, back pain, or even sleepless nights, it’s pretty incredible to think that your body knows how to create life practically on its own.

There are very few things that you need to do when you’re pregnant including coming into Camelback Women’s Health for regular checkups and taking a prenatal vitamin every day. With so many prenatal vitamin options to choose from though, it can sometimes be a bit overwhelming to know exactly what you need to look for.

Iron

Pregnancy can make you feel beyond tired, but mixed with anemia, you may feel like you’re never going to get out of bed again. One of the best ways to prevent anemia during pregnancy and childbirth is to make sure that your prenatal vitamin contains iron. But because iron can make you constipated, make sure that you are adding enough fiber to your diet.

Omega-3 Fatty Acids

Avocado, nuts, and fish are all packed full of omega-3 fatty acids, but it can be hard to get enough of them naturally in your diet— especially when you’re pregnant. Helping with brain growth and development, these fatty acids are a must-have in your vitamins. But because not all prenatal vitamins contain Omega-3 fatty acids, make sure to check the label.

Folic Acid

You have likely heard either from our office or from your pregnant friends that you need to take a prenatal for folic acid. Although regular multivitamins contain folic acid, prenatal vitamins contain a lot more because it is one of the biggest things that prevents birth defects.

During your initial pregnancy or pre-pregnancy appointment at our Camelback Women’s Health office, we will go over everything you should be doing for your growing baby including taking prenatal vitamins.
